Celebrating 5 Years: the Best Parley x adidas Releases (So Far)
The sneakersphere’s uptake of has garnered strong momentum in recent years, with the work of right at the forefront. Now into the fifth year of their game-changing partnership with , the organisation has championed eco-innovation and sustainability, working with the Three Stripes to release eye-catching and ocean-saving sneaker drops constructed with recycled plastics. We’ve seen a sea of memorable Parley x adidas collaborations since 2015, so here’s a recap of some of the best to date.
Parley x adidas UltraBOOST OG (2015)
The very first Parley UltraBOOST concept featured the now iconic full-length BOOST cushioning and Primeknit construction, but changed the game with a special synthetic yarn made from 11 recycled plastic bottles scooped out of the Indian Ocean.
In the months after, approximately 7000 pairs of the UltraBOOST dropped, with a mission statement declaring that one million pairs of recycled ocean plastic shoes would eventually be made. Parley followed up their own versions of the NMD_R1, adiZero Prime and EQT, all utilising uppers made from 95 per cent ocean plastic. This one really kicked things off.
Parley x adidas NMD_CS1 (2018)
Visually, the NMD_CS1 was unlike anything we'd seen from Parley x adidas cannon. The psychedelic sea-foam Primeknit is interspersed with black stripes across the stretch-fit upper. Blessed with a ultra-comfy mid-cut construction, the City Sock used more recycled yarn per shoe than any previous Parley production.
Parley x adidas Golf CODECHAOS PRIMEBLUE (2020)
Parley’s first venture onto the course was a memorable one. The knitted white uppers are interwoven blue and orange flecks for added flair. Down below, a full length BOOST footbed and toothed outsole combine for one of the best fairway-ready comfort and support seen in the adi lineup. As you’d expect, each shoe is made of over 70 per cent high-performance recycled polyester yarn. A definite hole-in-one!
Parley x adidas Terrex Free Hiker (2020)
Admittedly, some of Parley’s outdoor efforts have come up a little rough, but this certainly wasn’t the case with the Terrex Free Hiker. The higher-cut hike-ready Terrex expertly combines BOOST and Parley upcycled and sustainable plastic yarn, with the waste plastic sourced specifically from shorelines and around coastal areas. The sole unit is paired with a Continental outsole and ADAPTIVE TRAXION tech, so you know this drip has plenty of grip.
Parley x adidas UltraBOOST 4D Uncaged (Unreleased)
Circling back to their first-ever UltraBOOST concept, Parley and adidas are celebrating their fifth anniversary with a super-slick tribute to the one that started it all. A fusion of the UltraBOOST uncaged and 4D technology, the sneaker takes on a brooding black build, with the upper unmistakably throwing back to the eye-catching pattern of the OG.
Rumoured for an August release, this is bound to be must-cop for fans of eco-friendly footwear.
