Crocs Was Founded in 2001
Do you remember a world without Crocs? Probably not, so it should be no surprise that Crocs have over two decades under their belt. Crocs was brought into the world by a trio of innovators in 2001 – Scott Seamans, Lyndon Hanson, and George Boedecker Jr.
Waterborne Beginnings
In 2002, the Crocs founders unveiled their very first iteration to the world at the 2002 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in Florida. The idea is said to have come about on a sailing excursion. The design of Crocs was intended as a lightweight, waterproof shoe with good grip for boaters. But as history reveals, they were a shoe with universal purpose, including both practical and stylistic.
‘Those Are Ugly’
Before the Crocs co-founders officially came together to start the company, two of the three co-founders weren’t fully on board with the aesthetic. Upon first glance, they told Seamans, ‘Those are ugly,’ to which he said, ‘I know, but they have a lot of utility.’ Now, there’s a statement that aged very, very well. With all that being water under the bridge, the co-founders eventually opened a warehouse in Miami.
What Are Crocs Made From?
To the untrained eye, Crocs are most likely made out of rubber or plastic, but in actual fact, they’re made of neither. They’re made from a patented closed-cell resin called Croslite. Within this, the resin features a technology that allows each pair to have a soft, lightweight, non-marking and odour resistant quality.
Crocs Have Sold A LOT of Pairs
According to Crocs, more than 100 million pairs have been sold throughout the course of their existence.
