Stash, aka Josh Frank, is somewhat of a niche figure in streetwear and sneaker culture but remains a certified legend in the graffiti landscape. While many know him by his graff artworks that were plastered across train carriages in the 80s and galleries in the 2020s, here at we know Stash for his many collaborations with the likes of Nike and . He has added his touch to many models, including the , Air Force 1, , and , slowly building a reputable catalogue. Stash is far from a ‘hype’ collaborator and has remained an IYKYK gem reserved for the OG ‘heads.

While Stash’s 2024 Air Max 95 and Air Force 1 look nothing like the originals, which is sure to anger plenty of grumpy heads, we think it’s a good thing they aren’t the same. Differentiating between the two means that the 06 iterations remain special and the 2024 versions have their own moment.

The Air Max 95

Stash’s Air Max 95 has experienced some drastic changes, and while it won’t live up to the OG, it is a refreshing new take on a decades-old model. Back in 2006, Stash released the Air Max 95 as part of Nike’s Artist Series alongside its Air Force 1 counterpart in what’s known as the ‘Blue Pack’. Since its initial release, some have argued that it’s one of the , mostly thanks to the premium construction and crispy colour-blocking. The OG hosted a mostly suede build that was complemented by grey gradient and blue touches towards the top in a neoprene fabric. For the 2024 version, the artist decided to stick with similar tones, albeit increasing the use of his signature blue. The largest change though is the materials, which are still mostly suede but feature moulded panels and ripstop fabric on the top-half. Lace eyelets have also been altered, exuding a somewhat similar feel to the many ultra variants of the AM95. One thing that did stay the same throughout is the signature blue-speckled midsole.

The Air Force 1

While the new Stash x Nike Air Max 95 has been lauded by sneakerheads across the globe, the Air Force 1 has seen mixed reviews. The OG AF-1, also landing in 2006, was admired for a luxe leather and suede upper complemented by crisp synthetic underlays. This year’s iteration rocks a somewhat similar material mix, with leather heel panels, suede toes and eyestays; however, the midfoot and toe box underlay comes in ripstop, which a vocal minority are not pleased with. Colourblocking remains pretty on-point, although the midsole is a lighter hue of blue and the outsole hasn’t been iced-out. When comparing the OG and 2006, they share plenty of the same details but the 2024 fits nicely in the modern sneakerverse.
