To meet demand, the product series has grown by more than 15 times since its original release, and its influence has filtered into the entirety of the Converse canon. In fact, the brand hopes that by early 2022, all classic in the market will feature upgraded comfort benefits derived from the CX toolkit.
‘At Converse, we are incredibly proud of our heritage, which serves as a point of departure for a Design and Innovation approach that’s pushing our brand to new space,’ says Phil Russo, VP of Global Design and Innovation.
‘We are taking iconic favourites, including the Chuck Taylor All Star… and enhancing them with CX in response to consumer insights to drive comfort improvements. At the same time, the design team continues to explore, evolve and iterate our design language – creating future-forward style.’
The CX has come full circle – quite literally – adopting a 360-degree approach, evolving the expression and experience of the line’s technologies. The toolkit is best defined by CX foam, which enhances impact absorption and maximises long-lasting wear. Meanwhile, 2021 sees advancements in the following areas:
Fit: Delivering overfoot comfort and ease of wear through foams and materials like the brand’s stretch canvas – which adapts to the foot and enables easy on-off.
Ride: Ensuring both underfoot comfort, new proportions, and stance using CX foam and EVA foams.
Stride: Most new CX styles are supported by new rubber outsole designs for traction and durability.
All of these advancements mean exciting times for CX, and the 2021 festivities are kicking off with a revamped Chuck Taylor All Star CX, and head-turning Run Star Motion.
