Interview: ‘Harness The Drip’ With Horse Kicks
Marcus Floyd ain’t foalin’ around with his new venture, . The experienced sneaker customiser is taking his talents to the equestrian world by making luxury ‘horse shoes’, and he has ambitious plans to transform this seemingly niche product into a stable staple. Saddle up as Floyd shares the low-down on why he’s decided to ‘harness the drip’.
Do you plan to offer more Horse Kicks models?
I am currently a custom one-to-one business. Moving forward, I will not offer branded shoes from existing shoe companies – the original three were for charity purposes. I plan on unveiling my first Horse Kick-branded design on Halloween. In the future, many Horse Kicks will be in classic colourways we’ve grown to love, but they’ll sport my new logo instead.
Tell us more about Sneaker Ball Lex and its supporting charities.
The Sneaker Ball Lex is an upscale event where black-tie formality meets sneaker culture. This year’s ball invites 250 diverse young professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives. The Horse Kicks collection will be donated and auctioned off during this year’s ball. The event benefits Lex Project Prom, a minority organisation that helps under-resourced students go to prom, and the Sneakers with Everything Project, Inc., a non-profit organisation that uses sneaker culture to provide support to underserved BIPOC students.
What’s the long-term vision for Horse Kicks?
My long-term vision is ultimately to work with a bigger company and mass-produce my designs. I’d like to offer affordable sneakers for avid horse lovers and owners while still being able to fulfil custom orders for those looking for that unique appeal. I’d love for major brands to acknowledge the market for sneakers in the equine world. Hopefully, they’ll reach out to me to collaborate. Until then, it’ll be one-to-one custom orders.
