Kicks and ‘Fits: @404_eindbaas and the Air Max 1

As one of the most iconic franchises going, the Sneaker Freaker community isn’t short of Air Max memories. Air Max Day is just around the corner, so we connected with some of the biggest collectors in the game to chat about their most treasured pairs, the line’s cultural impact and the grails that got away. Once again paying tribute to the one that started it all, collector Dewi ( @404_eindbaas) takes us through her collection of AM1s.

So, give us the rundown. What’s your name/alias/social handle, where are you from, and which Air Max model got you hooked?

Hi all! I'm Dewi ( @404_eindbaas on Instagram) and I live in the Netherlands. At the age of 20, I got my first pair of Air Max 1s (the OG Red HOA from '05) and it felt like love at first sight. I’ve been collecting AM1s ever since.

What’s on foot right now?

I’m feeling lucky as I sit down writing, so I’m wearing the Patta x Air Max 1 ‘Lucky Green’.

What specific memories or emotions does your Air Max collection evoke? Is there a particular pair that holds the most sentimental value for you, and what’s the story behind it?

There are so many good stories behind my collection, a lot of them involve a lot of great sneakerheads I've met over the years. One particular pair holds significant sentimental value: my ultimate grail, Nike's 'BRS Powerwall'. There were two friends ( @jaefella and @mattshoe_one) putting in the effort to help me obtain this pair – to say I’m grateful is an understatement.

Is there a grail you’re still hunting?

This deep-rooted love for Air Max 1 is a never-ending love story, as is the hunting part. There are multiple grails I'm still searching for. ‘Chlorophyll’, ‘Cherrywood’, ‘Urawa’... there’s still a lot to take in!

Tell us a funny or terrifying Air Max story that happened to you?

Last year, I was asked to join @airmax1sluts, a group of 50 AM1 enthusiasts. Besides all the fun there’s almost a terrifying wealth of knowledge about Air Max history amongst the members of this group.

In your view, what Air Max release had the biggest cultural impact and why?

Pinpointing a single Air Max release with the biggest cultural impact is subjective and can vary depending on many factors. To name one, the Air Max 1 was groundbreaking with its visible Air cushioning technology.

What would you like to see for the future of Air Max?

Please, Nike bring back the Bespoke program!

What’s an Air Max myth you can bust for us?

For this particular question, I've reached out to our encyclopedia @suprblvck. And in all fairness, we don't know what a common misunderstanding or myth about Air Max 1s would be.

What does being a part of the Air Max community mean to you?

It's about connecting with a global network of like-minded individuals. In a world that can feel divided, being part of the Air Max community offers a sense of belonging and connection wherever we go.
