The Best Custom Sneakers of 2021

This year has been one hell of a ride when it came to custom sneakers. 2021 was also the year that we started our Monthly Mods series, where we covered all of the best customs that the month in question had to offer.

There were countless trends within the space, one of the most prominent was ageing, pre-distressing and yellowing the midsoles of brand new sneakers, with one SF writer struggling to make sense of the practice. Another common trend was the #offwhitedunkedit challenge which was set by Off-White and the late Virgil Abloh, encouraging sneakerheads to customise their collaborative Nike Dunks from 'The 50' collection. We also noticed that the anime-inspired customs market started to enter the mainstream following the Gundam x Nike SB collaboration.
