Sneakers and Halloween go together like a Barbie and Ken costume in 2023!

Nowadays, Halloween in the sneakersphere is big, to the point where there are so many themed-out releases that it’s hard to keep up. Brands go wild, decking out their signature silhouettes in hair-raising colourways that’ll spook the socks off any frightened sneakerhead. Thinking back, one of the greatest sneakers to ever release for spooky season was the Air Force 1 ‘Savage Beast’ from 2009.

To help celebrate Halloween, we thought we would look back at some of the other hairy sneakers that have been released.

Air Force 1 ‘Savage Beast’

Touching down for Halloween 2009, these Air Force 1s boasted a full orange upper with pony hair everywhere – even the midsole! Rounding out this iteration was a specialised ‘Savage Beast’ logo scripted on the heel.

Air Jordan 7 ‘Hare 2.0’

Space Jam 2 came out in 2021, but Jordan Brand were so excited that they created the Air Jordan 7 ‘Hare 2.0’ as a subtle ode to the franchise in 2020. The original ‘Hare’ iteration released in 1992 and the SKU code on the lateral heel references its forefather. For this iteration, Nike kitted out the upper in crisp grey pony hair, adding pink accents in true ‘wabbit’ style.

Medicom x Nike SB Blazer Mid and SB Dunk Low

Medicom love pony hair, so much so that in 2020 they linked with Nike SB for not one, but two hairy sneaks! The first was the ultra-hype black/white SB Dunk Low, which was affectionately dubbed ‘Bearbrick’ and featured black pony hair uppers. The second was the SB Blazer, which used a similar blueprint albeit with ‘Light Cream’.

Olivia Kim x Air Jordan 4

Olivia Kim has been responsible for multiple crisp Swoosh colabs over the years, but her hairiest was on the Air Jordan 4. Inspired by 90s streetwear, Kim’s ‘No Cover’ AJ4 boasted a triple-black pony hair build. There’s no doubt that Kim drew some extra inspiration from the ‘Black Cats’, making these the perfect Halloween.

Opening Ceremony x adidas Stan Smith

Back in 2014, Opening Ceremony (RIP) was enlisted by adidas to craft a selection of wild Stan Smith designs. For their second instalment, the legendary retailer kitted out the revered silhouette in luxe pony uppers.
