A Detailed Look at the Nike Daybreak and Air Jordan 1 Mid ‘Día de Muertos’
annual ‘Día de Muertos’ collection for included the , , , and , and followed the theme of ‘Para Mi Familia’ – or ‘For My Family’. We’ve now got a closer look at the latter two of those silhouettes, which draw on the distinct marigold flower and ‘papel picado’ paper pattern motifs that decorate this colourful collection.
The Daybreak swaps its usual nylon and suede construction for grid mesh vamps and crackled leather overlays, alternating between white and dark grey. While marigold yellow leather meets burgundy-purple accents to tap into the ‘Día de Muertos’ scenes. Further custom details include copious x-stitching on the toe bumper and rear, where the latter bears ‘Para Mi Familia’ text across the heels. Most notably, the intricate ‘papel picado’ pattern adorns the Swoosh and lateral heel counter.
Meanwhile, the AJ1 Mid is classically colour-blocked with alternating panels of burgundy-purple and white leather on the uppers. There’s plenty of marigold on show too, via the contrast panel stitching, plus cracked leather on the Swooshes and ankle collars. The grid mesh from the Daybreak shows up again on the tongue, contrasted further by stark black laces. And, of course, the ‘Para Mi Familia’ callout is printed on the toe bumper.
