A New Look at the BAPE x New Balance 2002R Surfaces
have been presiding over the sneaker headlines as of late, with new in-line collections and spicy collaborations all hitting shelves in the coming few months. One of the linkups that has had the sneakersphere talking is their first-ever partnership on the .
While this will be the first official NB x BAPE debut, the Japanese streetwear game-changers used to have an in-house silhouette called the FIVESTA, which pretty much paid homage to the . That’s neither here-nor-there because the 2002R will be the perfect silhouette for their joint debut. While BAPE never really left the streetwear space, their sneakers have been experiencing a recent resurgence thanks to the comeback of a slew of their older silhouettes. Now, the 2002R is set to catapult the Japanese OGs to once again become a household name amongst sneakerheads.
The inaugural collaboration was first teased by the brands towards the beginning of March, with close-up shots. Following that, no real news has come forth… until now! A few days ago, New Balance’s product manager took to Instagram to share a full look at the black colourway. This iteration has been crafted using a full ABC Camouflage underlays, while black covers the silhouette with 2002R branding towards the rear. BAPE’s iconic shark graphic has been wrapped around the heel with their BAPE STA insignia placed subtly at the bottom of the laces.
Although we’ve got a full look at one colourway of the BAPE x New Balance link up on the 2002R, release details still haven’t arrived. As usual, we’ll keep you updated when more information comes through.
