Update April 12, 2022: After adidas and Balenciaga's Triple S colab was leaked last month, we've now been given a much clearer look at the high-fashion hybrid and its special packaging! Combining the white/black shades and signature Three Stripe detailing of the with the Triple S' famous triple-stacked midsole and Balenciaga branding, it's a sky-high homage to how sneakers have infiltrated the world of couture and how Balenciaga, under the leadership of Demma Gvasalia, are re-writing the rules of high fashion. The high fashion x sneaker crossover has birthed some collaborations to varying degrees of anticipation and success. One brand seemingly keen to keep the cross-pollination active is , who will apparently team up with on the , if this leak from is to be believed.
Why would the two parties pick the Triple S? In 2019, Sneaker Freaker for establishing the chunky shoe zeitgeist, while as a trend the industry needed to bury. Under the direction of Demna Gvasalia, the Spanish fashion house has certainly maintained an irreverent energy and embraced the divisive Triple S as a flagship of their footwear line, for better or worse. And with Adidas on board, this actually is a plausible partnership.
The Three Stripes recently on an expansive collection of apparel and sneakers, whereby adidas classics were reworked with the Italian label’s motifs. Now, adi have applied their trademark Three Stripes and Superstar-esque white and black colourway to one of Balenciaga’s crown jewels. It’s a case of give and take.
So, what’s the connection here? Gucci and Balenciaga are both part of the Kering Group, and the fashion houses worked together on The Hacker Project. And guess who’s closely partnered with Kering on the ? Yep, adidas. Can’t blame them for following the sneaker shmoney.
