The adidas Crazy 97 EQT – Kobe Bryant's 1997 Dunk Contest Shoe – Is Coming Back
Before was one of longest-tenured basketball athletes, even before he was a sneaker free agent who rocked special and PEs, he was a member of team in the earliest days of his career. One of Kobe's most notable moments with the Three Stripes? The 1997 Slam Dunk Contest, during which he wore a special Lakers-themed . Now, that special sneaker is set to return in 2022 to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The Crazy 97 EQT is a tale of two halves, one loud and one much more subtle. The loud half is the lateral side, which features zig-zagging overlays, a special Three Stripe graphic and a medallion that shifts between standard adidas branding and a FYW logo. The subtle half is the medial side, one that combines leather and neoprene. A gold tongue badge and signature zig-zagging EVA outsole complete the look.
You can check out the shoes themselves and see an 18-year-old (!) Kobe Bryant in action in 'em directly above. Early reports place this special Crazy 97 EQT's release in February – likely around the 2022 NBA All-Star Game – but that bit of news has yet to be officially confirmed by adidas.
