Make-A-Wish and Jordan Brand Created An Air Jordan Flyease PE for 13-Year-Old Jordan Carranza
Make-A-Wish and have teamed up once again, helping 13-year-old Jordan Carranza's dreams come true by making him an PE. Carranza, a noted sneakerhead, is battling Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a 'severe, progressive muscle-wasting disease that leads to difficulties with movement', but even the challenge he faces hasn't deterred his spirits – or his love of sneakers. ' has always been my favourite brand,' he says.
Carranza loves Nike so much, in fact, that when he first met with the Jordan Brand design team in July he already had a sketch of what he wanted ready to present, which can be seen above. He chose a classic blue, white and black colour scheme reminiscent of the , and loaded his kicks up with special details!
Drawing inspiration from his initial sketch, Carranza's PE features a special wheelchair-and-wings logo that's stamped on the lateral heel and seen sans wing under the icy blue outsole (where it features #23) and tongue. There's also a hybrid logo with Carranza's initials on the strap. Both the collar lining and inner half of the tongue feature a repeating logo print, and the 13-year-old's handwriting appears on the insole, with a special 'Just because your [sic] disabled doent [sic] mean that your dream can’t come true'. The shoe's construction makes it easy to put on and remove with one hand by using a strap, elastic laces and a zipper that wraps around the heel.
This extra-special Air Jordan 1 Flyease PE will not see a retail release, as it was created exclusively for Carranza and his family. In the past, Jordan Brand have also partnered with Make-A-Wish to create an for Peyton Smith and an for Millad Mesriani, both of whom are teenage cancer survivors.
