Update September 20, 2022: Finally, official images of the Air Jordan 5 GORE-TEX ‘Off-Noir’ have surfaced! Sources hint at a December drop, but peep the pics above and stay locked for exact release details.

The waterproof yet breathable membrane known as GORE-TEX has been an integral part of rugged footwear for decades, but in recent years it seems as though it is more likely to ride the hype train than the white water rapids. This correlation continues with new imagery of the Air Jordan 5 GORE-TEX ‘Off-Noir’, which seems completely removed from the oppressive elements that its technology is intended for.

This colourway may look familiar because it’s largely based on the OG ‘Black Metallic’ colourway, but with a bit more red. It consists of a black durabuck upper, rubberised mesh midfoot windows and tongue shaft, plus a distinct reflective and Jumpman-branded tongue. The heel counter on the right foot features the number 23 embroidered on the lateral side – in reference to the shoe’s famous wearer – while the left reads GORE-TEX. On the topic of the waterproof tech, it can only be assumed at this stage that this is incorporated via a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating on the upper, plus the namesake membrane is likely sat as a layer beneath the upper.
