Official Images: Air Jordan 5 Low Doernbecher
As we await the arrival of and 2022 Freestyle collection, official images of the forthcoming drops are beginning to sneak out. The latest is an , designed by Michael Wilson.
Wilson was diagnosed with Krabbe disease two months after his birth, a rare genetic condition that destroys the protective coating found on the brain's nerve cells and nervous system. Infants with Krabbe disease rarely live to be older than two, but Wilson's older brother Marshall had it as well – so his family's doctors were prepared. 'My brother helped save my life,' Michael Wilson said.
A decade has passed since Wilson's initial battle with Krabbe disease, and now he's a happy-go-lucky kid with a wide variety of interests that range from aeroplanes to mac 'n' cheese. Somehow, his special manage to pack everything he loves into one wildly colourful design!
Red, orange green and blue can all be seen across Wilson's kicks, and his love of mac 'n' cheese is spotlighted via special lace deubres plus patterned toeboxes and collars. 'Take Flight,' one of his personal mottos, can be seen on the lateral heel, while an 'Air Michael' graphic is embroidered on the rear. There's also an upside-down 'Air Michael' embellishment on the back of the tongue, making for a meting between two Michaels: Wilson and .
The front side of the tongue is made of Velcro material, and the shoe comes accompanied by six patches that can be placed anywhere on the tongue. One of these, a hand-drawn flaming skull from Wilson himself, is printed on the insole as well. The shoe's collar lining is patterned, and a finishing touch of detail is supplied by 'Pull To Eject' details on the heel and hangtag – which work with a sinister eye under the midfoot's plastic netting to lock in the shoe's fighter jet inspiration.
You can expect this special Air Jordan 5 Low to drop later this spring, so keep it locked here for info on an exact date of arrival as it's made available!
