The Air Max Light, also known as the Air Max II, dropped in stores in 1989, 2 years after the Air Max 1 with the visible Air-Sole which was released in 1987. The Air Max Light features the same Maximum-Volume Heel Air-Sole Unit like its big brother and additionally a Forefoot Air-Sole Unit- another milestone in the world of footwear. Michael M., Booker, Kinetic Artist Management, founder of Berlin´s well known 'Grounded Theory' Party-Series and Nike Fan, tells us his very-own Air Max Story for today.
Air Max Light, Air Max II, Air Max 1989! Why this one!? Well - the Light was, before its re-issue in 2007, an insider AM, due to the fact that it was quite difficult in the 90s to get your hands on photos or information about this innovative silhouette. Until 2007 the Air Max Light was Nike's Sleeping Beauty. Even if this silhouette is one of the most underrated ones, there's no reason for it to hide: With the rocket-like shape and the split sole, dipped in stunning colours, the Light is a must have in every shoe rack and a top runner.
The first re-issued colorways were dope, especially the white/red/black one, which fit exactly with Overkill´s colour scheme. All the other colorways were also nice – some of them are still in my private collection. My All-Time favourite: Air Max Light Vintage from 2011 in both colorways. Workmanship and shape are reasons why this shoe is one of the best Nike Runners of all time, not forgetting the vintage Look! I'm looking forward to more releases...
