Remember those $1.8 Million Air Yeezys? They Just Sold For $180K at Auction

Update September 14, 2023: The recent Goldin auction of the grammy-worn Air Yeezy Prototypes just ended... and they sold for $180,106. That's 10% of what was paid at the Sotheby's auction, where the exact pair fetched $1.8 million. Someone just got a nice 90% discount.

Update October 31, 2022: Following the news that Christie’s were auctioning off the infamous Nike Air Yeezy prototypes Ye wore at the 2008 Grammy Awards, the auction house has now announced it will no longer be doing so and that private sales have been cancelled. A Christie’s spokesperson told , ‘We are not selling any of this material nor do we have any plans to.’
The pairs were previously auctioned via , selling for a mega $1.8 million, making them among the most valuable sneakers in history.
Auction house have seen their fair share of ultra-rare sneakers, streetwear and collectibles in recent years – so many that they’ve launched ‘Department X’ to group these unicorn items.
This year alone, Christie’s sold a Upper Deck Signed 1986 Fleer #57 Rookie Card for $1,008,000 and a pair of game-worn and signed 1997–1998 for $378,000. These are the sorts of items that fit into Department X.
Lots in this collection will be sold via online auction events in New York, but select pieces are available through Christie’s Private Sales year-round. Given the incredibly rarefied status of these items, don’t expect to see prices publicly disclosed for most sales.
Available now is a pair of Air Yeezy prototypes worn by Kanye West at the 2008 Grammy Awards and a pair of unreleased created in memory of his mother, Donda West. These form part of the ‘Ye Walks’ private sale collection.
