Celebrate the Inaugural Clarks Wallabee Day This April

Clarks Wallabee DayClarks Wallabee Day

Arguably one of the most iconic pieces of footwear of all time is the Clarks Wallabee. To celebrate their timeless silhouette, Clarks are kicking off an annual day of celebration! Aptly dubbed Wallaby Day, April 26 is now marked as the commemorative 24 hours to celebrate the iconic silhouette.

This date was chosen because of a niche piece of Clarks lore: On April 26, 1971 at NY’s JFK Airport, customs rapidly assembled to intercept 4,176 wallabies that were expected to arrive from Clarks. They actually called the British brand to ensure the thousands of live animals were safe to handle and discuss the lack of official documentation. Clarks informed the border security staff that these were not live animals, and actually the brand new Wallabee silhouette – we’re sure they were relieved at hearing that!

‘We are delighted to announce the launch of our first Wallabee Day’ said Tara McRae, Clark’s chief marketing and digital officer said in a press release. ‘It’s such an iconic shoe loved by people across the world and has severed as a blank canvas to artists, creators and cultures over many generations. Wallabee Day allows us to celebrate not just the shoe, but also all of the collaborators who help us reinvent the story, year after year.

The celebrations have already kicked off this month with a stack of exclusive releases, that includes the Papergirl colab dropping this weekend. Clarks will also be kitting out select flagship locations in celebratory build-outs, with an in-depth history lesson to go down through the brand’s Instagram with the help of TV host Becca Dudley.

Happy Wallaby Day!
