Converse Are the Latest to be Impacted by Nike Layoffs

As has been on Sneaker Freaker since February, 2024, plan to decrease their workforce by two per cent this year, as they ‘edit, shift and divest less critical work to create greater focus and capacity for what matters most’, according to Swoosh CEO John Donahoe. Converse, who are based in Boston, come under the Nike Inc. banner and have felt the repercussions of the significant changes made from the top. A spokesperson for the brand told that Converse are ‘realigning some of our teams to better support future growth. We can confirm that the total changes to Converse’s workforce were included in Nike’s overall 2% reduction plan, however, we were operating on a discrete timeline.’
This news comes fresh after Nike informed Oregon officials in April that approximately 740 employees at their One Bowerman Drive, Beaverton headquarters will be let go. Online sales, which have been lower than normal, were attributed to the permanent reduction in workforce. Further back this year was when the downsizing was announced. In February, Donahoe admitted that there was a lack of innovation within Nike (later blaming ), which they aim to rectify with further investment, and he has ‘never been more confident in our leadership and team to drive the clarity and teamwork required to win’.
