First Look: Nike Air Yeezy 1 Sample Wear-Tested by Kanye West
Since its debut 12 year ago, the Air Yeezy 1 and its ‘Blink’, ‘Zen Grey’, and ‘Net’ colourways have become bona fide Grails. However, rare pairs and samples have also surfaced over the years, commanding even larger price tags. This pair wear-tested by himself is one such example.
Created before the official launch, this sample was offered to Kanye to wear and alter ahead of finalising the design. So, it’s no surprise these Air Yeezy 1s have a few different details compared to the retail pairs, such as a perforated white leather upper with neon pink collar lining, and grey suede mudguards. More colour arrives via the sky blue patent leather midfoot overlay, while the AJ3-inspired midsoles are done up in white with what looks like glow-in-the-dark detailing. Perhaps the most unique difference is the missing midfoot strap, which was allegedly cut off by Kanye during the wear-test process.
