For Sale: Nike Penetrators Hand-Drawn and Signed by Keith Haring From 1986
For many of us, sneakers are art, but it’s not often we stumble across a genuine piece from a pop art icon. Case in point: these Penetrators, which feature hand-drawn graphics by the late . Currently up for sale on , this particular pair dates back to 1986, and is said to be 100 per cent authentic.
Placed on auction by the pair’s OG owner, these Nikes were drawn on and signed by Haring at the opening of the Pop Shop in New York City on ‘the Saturday morning of April 16th, 1986’.
In the words of the item poster:
‘These were well-loved and well-worn, as can be seen by the pictures. They then were stored in acid-free paper in a box from around 1988 onward, once my parents saw what his art was going for and wisely advised me to stop wearing them LOL!’
Debuting in 1984, the Penetrator is a close cousin of the famed and All Court silhouettes. The 1984 version was followed by a few new variants in 1986, which notably added suede on both high and low top black colourways.
