The New Balance 2002R had a mega year in 2022. From stacks of colourways of the model released on the regular, it became the it-shoe for fans who like to wear archival runners for lifestyle purposes. Solidifying its status was the landslide of collaborative link-ups it received, with everyone from retailers to designers getting in on the 2002R action. One of the colabs well loved by many was by GANNI, who dropped two iterations of the silhouette, with subtle logo mania making its way onto the underlays of the designs.

It looks like GANNI may be back with New Balance, this time on the 1906R, according to a first look that surfaced on Instagram. Predicted to be the next ‘big thing’ since the 2002R, the 1906 has already dropped in heaps of crisp colourways that early adopters have been quick to scoop up. GANNI are here to shake things up just the right amount, using bold lines and contrasting to make their mark on the silhouette. Featuring a white base, with a variant of cream for the soles, stark black lines accent the uppers, matched by the laces and the outline of the N logo, which is dressed in bright yellow. Dual branding strikes the tongue tags, making for a fresh take on the silhouette in 2023.
