The callous murder of George Floyd has rocked US society to its core, while peaceful protests in many cities across the world are proof that police brutality and racism are issues clearly not just confined to America. We at condemn the systemic racism that has resulted in so many needless deaths. Until the powers-that-be take significant steps to effect change at all levels, we fear the oppression will continue, as will the rage at their inaction.
We all need to work together to address the imbalance of power and racism in all its forms. This is not just about what’s happening Stateside, it truly is a global fight. Just yesterday, footage surfaced of a 16-year-old Indigenous Australian being violently arrested by a white police officer in the suburbs of Sydney. Sadly, this is an all too common occurrence.
