Highlights from Milan Fashion Week SS20

Milan Fashion Versace

This week saw the global fashion elite descend on Milan for the Spring/Summer 2020 collections, where the industry titans gave us a look into our sartorial futures. And if there's one thing we can take away from the week, it's that our futures certainly look colourful.

But, there's more to it than that... Here are some of the highlights.

Gucci

The Italian fashion house's show may have been marred by controversy, but critics are otherwise lauding the ready-to-wear line (controversial garments aside, of course).

While it was luxe tailoring and throwback fabrics up top, models were strutting the runway in mismatched neon and silver sneaks, complete with disc-and-wire fastenings, channelling the past and the present in an oh so way.

Versace

Well, went and got all nostalgic on us, didn't they. Throughout the show, we saw subtle (and not so subtle) hints at that dress. From palm-printed handbags, to luscious green heels, there was no denying where their head was at.

Piquing our interest, the brand presented an apparent follow-up to their colab, sending a similarly printed Cross Chainer down the runway paired with a suit in the same fabric.

But really, all else paled in comparison to this... Iconic.

Alexandra Moura

Portuguese designer Alexandra Moura closed out the week with a tribute to Portugal's fishing villages. Layered patchwork, ribbon ties and over-sized, asymmetrical pockets bring a 19th century look to the 21st century runway, but thick-treaded sneakers refresh the look. Is this the swansong of the chunk, or does the ubiquitous trend have more life to live?
