Kobe and Gigi Bryant's Legacy Lives On with Renewed Nike Partnership
Announced today, will be renewing their partnership with the family to honour the legacy of Kobe and Gigi Bryant, the new deal focusing on youth participation in sport and ushering in a new generation of hoops fans.
‘We’re excited to announce our partnership with Nike is going to continue!’ Vanessa Bryant shared in a post on Instagram. ‘I am so proud that my husband's shoes are still the most worn by players on NBA courts and that the demand for his shoes remain so desired by his fans around the world.’
Nike will donate 100 per cent of the net proceeds yearly for Gianna’s shoes to Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, while a brand new youth basketball centre in Southern California will provide grounds to explore the ‘Mamba Mentality'.
The first sneaker marking the new era will be the Nike Protro ‘Mambacita Sweet 16’, of course honouring Gigi Bryant.
It’s welcome news for sneakerheads the world over, after the Nike partnership on April 13, 2021. The new deal will undoubtedly see Kobe shoes becoming more accessible, the recent scarce amount of product in recent years making it nearly impossible for fans (and even NBA players!) to purchase new Kobe sneakers.
‘Kobe Bryant means so much to so many of us, not just NBA fans but globally beyond the game,’ says John Donahoe, president and CEO at NIKE, Inc. ‘His impact in growing the sport, particularly encouraging women and young people to pick it up, endures as one of his deepest, lasting legacies. Together with Vanessa, we hope to honor Kobe and Gigi by championing a new generation for many years to come.’
