Michael Jordan’s Six Game-Worn Championship Sneakers Sell For Record-Breaking $8 Million
Prices for game-worn sneakers have skyrocketed in recent years thanks to the surge of sports memorabilia and the cultural boom provided by the documentary The Last Dance. The gavel has landed again recently, this time hammering in a new record. Surprise surprise, it’s another game-worn collection that has shattered the ceiling, with MJ’s six championship sneakers selling for a whopping $8 million.
Dubbed the ‘Dynasty Collection’, the six individual Air Jordan sneakers were all worn during the clinching games of Jordan’s Chicago Bulls’ championships. The final price cements the Dynasty Collection as the most expensive game-worn collection ever sold, and the second-most valuable Michael Jordan memorabilia ever fetched at auction (coming in behind Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 from the famous ‘Last Dance’ season, which sold for $10.1 million at Sotheby’s in September, 2022).
The most valuable single pair of sneakers ever sold at auction is still Michael Jordan’s 1998 Finals Game 2 , which earned $2.2 million in April, 2023.
'Today’s record-breaking price is a testament to the GOAT. The Dynasty Collection undeniably ranks among the most significant compilations of sports memorabilia in history', said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Modern Collectables. 'Serving as both a reminder of Michael Jordan's lasting impact on the world and a tangible expression of his recognised legendary status, its significance is further validated by this monumental result. A truly unparalleled moment and milestone in auction history, the sale of these six championship-clinching sneakers will likely never be replicated.'
