Netflix Buys Kanye West Documentary Spanning Over Two Decades
Netflix have acquired the rights to a documentary that spans over two decades of the artist’s career.
Directed by Clarence ‘Coodie’ Simmons and Chike Ozah – the brains behind Kanye’s ‘Jesus Walks’ (Version 3) and ‘Through the Wire’ music videos – the deal is reportedly worth a jaw-dropping $30 million, which would make it one of the most expensive documentaries of all time.
Exploring Kanye’s rise through the music and fashion industry, the project will cover the death of Kanye’s mother Donda, and his failed presidential run in 2020. There’s also reportedly plenty of content regarding Kanye’s rise to billionaire status (Kanye’s worth is now expected to land around $1.8b), after declaring a $53 million debt back in 2016.
Here’s hoping we also see plenty of unreleased sneakers and further insight into Kanye West’s all-conquering label!
Directors Coodie & Chike’s production company Creative Control is producing the documentary alongside TIME Studios. The multi-part documentary (the title is yet-to-be-confirmed) is expected to hit Netflix later this year.
