Confirmed Release This Week! New Balance 990v6 ‘Grey’

Update March 23, 2022: New Balance have officially confirmed the 990v6 will arrive on November 4 in select countries via their web channels.

New eComm images of the sixth-generation New Balance 990v6 have surfaced ahead of any announcements by the brand. The latest flagship in the long-running 990 series, shown above in the ubiquitous ‘Grey’ combination that’s decorated the line since 1982, houses some details not used on previous models.

While each 990 brings something new to the table, there will always be reverent references to its back catalogue. The layered grey suede, mesh and synthetic upper panelling is stretched out and made sleek, but some familiar shapes can be spotted throughout – peep that exaggerated collar overlay reminiscent of the 990v3. New to the model is an updated 990 font on the heel counter and tongue branding.

Also of note on the 990v6 is its new midsole specification of FuelCell cushioning, replacing the ENCAP system that’s been the foundation of the 990 series since the 990v3. This is represented by the considerably voluptuous midsole and cored-out tread, which implies an emphasis on the running performance ethos that spawned the flagship product line in the first place.

As mentioned, New Balance are yet to announce the 990v6 officially, but the emergence of these images means a release should be imminent.
