New Balance Are Going Big with Their 550
aren’t playing around with the revival of their OG basketball silhouette the 550. We recently heard news that they’ll be dropping the silhouette in , which was fresh off the back of an extremely tasteful collaboration. In that team up, the New York streetwear brand searched through NB’s archive to pull out the retro model and bring it back into the spotlight. Now, images have just floated across our desks of another black and red combo that is set to drop next year, which has some observers predicting that plenty more are on the way.
Originally hitting store shelves way back in 1989, the New Balance 550 is as vintage as they come. A basketball silhouette at heart, it’s chunky, minimal, and screams the 80s. The latest colourway that has just touched down is in the classic black and red combo with black suede used for the base, grey pops around the heel, and red accents on the branding, sole and tongue for that little pop of colour.
In terms of release details, information is a little hazy at this point. The previous two colourways that debuted dropped on December 1 at select Japanese retailers, and while a global release hasn’t been announced just yet, we suspect this latest version will be on its way in 2021.
