New Nike Air Force 1 Mids Are Seriously NYC Style
The in mid-cut form is a variant of a classic sneaker that is seemingly immune to the hate that other Mids suffer from in the contemporary sneaker space (ahem, ). This is likely because the AF-1 Mid has featured prominently in the line-up since its introduction circa 1994, and the model’s indelible embrace by New York City, which has been acknowledged with various limited editions over the years. This practice resumes in 2021 as Nike are set to release two new takes on the Mid that are deadass NYC style.
First up is this white option with navy trim and gum outsoles. Pretty simple and clean as is, but Nike make it a New York thing with the pinstripe detail and NYC branding on the ankle strap and heel tab. Catch these down at Yankee Stadium for sure. Another nod to NYC-themed drops of yesteryear is the large jewel Swoosh, which was introduced on the AF-1 Mid back in the mid- to late-1990s. The other colourway is classic ‘Cool Grey’ top and bottom, with crisp white soles and laces – essentially a one-to-one retro of a release from 1998.
Keep an eye out at select Nike retailers for the drop later this year. There could be every chance this is a New York exclusive.
