Debuting in 2006, the Nike ACG Watercat+ was originally designed to walk on water – quite literally. Utilising an idiosyncratic woven construction for water drainage, the ultra-breathable model was emblematic of Nike ACG’s (All-Conditions Gear) intrepid design approach in the mid-2000s, a nostalgic era again seeing a resurgence in the 2020s.

With the notion of GORPcore still flexing its – leg – muscles in recent years, Nike look set to roll out fresh seasonal colourways of the cult favourite, the latest ‘Court Purple’ rendition ushering in the warmer weather (in the Northern Hemisphere), and thus motivating many to take to the mountains.

Replete with non-wicking cords, the team at ACG have retained the quick-entry lacing system from the original while adding new tech elements like the mixed-rubber outsoles with undulating lugs – giving the wearer a ‘stronger grip than a sucker fish’.

Sweaty feet?

The Nike ACG Watercat+ ‘Court Purple’ is expected to arrive at Nike and select retailers over the coming months.
