As it’s the of the , it’s only expected that the brand brings back the legendary basketball shoe in its original unadulterated form. And it looks like that’s exactly what they’ll be doing, as official imagery of the OG colourway reissue has surfaced.
The AF-1 was introduced as a high-top and was the first Nike basketball shoe to use Nike Air technology – it just so happened it shared the same name as the literally high-flying plane of the US president. This original edition simply features a plain leather upper that Nike have given a slight off-white finish to, implying a vintage effect. Like the 1982 debut, the mid panel is mesh, rather than leather with two small perforations that has been used for decades. The strap is woven, and the Swoosh and outsole accents are grey for period correctness. Even the laces appear to be of a different, denser weave than regular versions. Details, details.
While this edition is widely known as the one that went to market, there does exist what some collectors call the ‘Air Force Zero’ that doesn’t have perforations in the toe box. Stay tuned to see if Nike bring that back too!
