Update May 1, 2023: After first surfacing last year, the Nike Air Force 1 ‘San Francisco Chinatown’, aka ‘Gold Mountain’, is now readying to release! They’ll drop on May 10.

The Nike Air Force 1 is having an unforgettable year in 2022, celebrating its 40th anniversary! There’s been a lot happening, from the ‘Colour of the Month’ releases to the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 ‘Brooklyn’ and even a first look at a very Y2K-esque UNDEFEATED collaboration.

Of course, with the silhouette in the midst of such a milestone year, there’s more to come before 2022 is out! Up next is a pair of Uptowns celebrating San Francisco’s Chinatown district. As the single largest Chinatown outside of Asia, it’s also the oldest Chinatown in North America, making it all the more deserving of its very own AF-1. How does the model celebrate this? Looking at the tongue labels and insoles, you’ll find the Chinese characters ‘奮金山’, which, translated literally in English, means ‘golden mountain’. It’s also an affectionate name for the district in Mandarin. Elsewhere on the shoes, lotus flower detailing can be found on the lateral heels and insoles.
