This new in ‘Fuchsia Dream’ looks like it could’ve slotted right into a 2000s sneaker store’s shelves. It’s full of telltale features that identify the golden era of 20ish years ago, from its material selection, angles, and, most importantly, its strong colour-blocking. It is a good thing, however, that this is in fact a shoe from 2023, because vintage AM1s are more or less unwearable today.
It’s widely agreed that the AM1 was at a peak in the 2000s. With lots of inspo to pull from, it’s an easy win for Nike to revisit some tried and true ideas on this upcoming pair. It straight-up looks like an ‘Anniversary’ colourway with the namesake ‘Fuchsia Dream’ pink substituted in. The beloved microfibre and mesh is all there, and so is the white and grey base. Even the tongue seam has that very specific rolled edge that connoisseurs look for. The outsole returns to form after a few years of solid colouring by having a small dab of pink on the toe tip. It might be a little more expensive for Nike to produce, but worth every bit for the end consumer.
