Surplus Panels Reach the Nike Air Max 90 Futura
News of this release was first published on March 30, 2022.
Update March 31, 2022: While possessing similarities to the Nike Dunk Low Scrap, this model is actually called the Air Max 90 Futura. With that new info comes official images of an all-white pair joining the mix.
penchant for remixing classic sneakers with excess panels and patchwork style has taken off exponentially ever since ‘The Ten’. Following the recent introduction of the comes the new Scrap, which also displays a quirky upper of panels seemingly cobbled together to create a new silhouette.
Emerging in this pink and beige colourway, the only seemingly familiar component of this AM90 is its midsole, which is kept fairly OG. Up top, it’s a whole new ballgame as the proportions are changed massively. The mudguard, now in suede, wraps taller and has a rough cut edge overhanging across the toe bumper. This provides extra real estate for components like an oversized Swoosh to pretty much be stitched on top like a patch. The stacked layering continues on the eye stays, whereby there’s up to four panels laid out like a lasagna.
Beyond some of these superfluous additions are some seemingly practical adjustments, such as pull tabs on the tongue and heel, which also gives a somewhat utilitarian flare. There’s also extra padding in the lining, a feature that is always welcome in any casual shoe.
Keep an eye out for the Nike Air Max 90 Scrap to arrive in this colour plus new combos in coming months.
