The Social Status x Nike Air Max Penny 1 is Highly Customisable
Before the supposed return of the in OG colours, leaks are already emerging of its future collaborations. One is with retailer , who have added some unique customisation options to the 1990s basketball shoe to enable individuality and creativity for its wearers.
The colab begins with a muted beige colourway, covering a majority of the upper that has been reworked into fine suede or nubuck and textured synthetic trim. Here is where the scene is set for Social Status to apply some changes, such as the extra lace toggle for bow-free wear – a feature not originally found on the Penny 1. This piece of hardware is likely further emphasised by the fact that these sneakers come with an additional five sets of shoe laces in different colours. These options then match up to five interchangeable velcro Swooshes in a first for the model.
Each set of Swooshes is a different texture: red-stitched leather, neon yellow, yellow, red, and pebbled brown. This is supposedly to correspond with particular sports; baseball, tennis and basketball are obvious nods, but the other two – according to online whispers – represent football and golf.
It will be interesting to hear what Social Status have to say once they confirm this release, which is branded with their logo on the heels and insoles.
