The sneakersphere is constantly churning, new models and colourways touch down on a weekly basis, so sometimes it’s nice to find comfort in simple colour combos and silhouettes that have been around for decades – like the Nike Air Max Plus. This year has been especially big for the Sean McDowell-designed sneaker, with rumours floating around that the ‘Hyper Blue’ is set to receive a retro, and 1999 heaters like the ‘Rainbow’ and ‘Petrol Blue’ making triumphant returns. Although while we love all the wild eye-catching combos, you can’t go wrong with the classic ‘Black Gum’.

This colourway is allegedly involved in the celebration of Nike Sportswear’s 25th anniversary, and hosts plenty of special details. The base layer has been adorned in a tight black mesh, with complementary gradient grey veins, blacked-out midsole and gum outsole. Nubuck has been added to the tongue surrounding the ‘Air’ logo, alongside a special tag beneath the two-tone laces that reads ‘Nike Air Max Plus 1998’. When the lights go out, the ‘Black Gum’ is serious about its reflective details, hosting 3M paneling on the tongue, heel, laces and toebox.

Is the Nike Air Max Plus ‘Black Gum’ up your alley? No release date has been locked in as of yet, but with the official imagery out you can expect pairs to land soon.
