Nike Score an Air Max Plus for the 2022 World Cup
The international sporting calendar is finally returning to regular programming and that means the 2022 FIFA World Cup is not far away! Commemorative sneakers are also popping up, such as this adorned with quiet references to the the world’s most popular ball game.
Nike have been releasing World Cup-inspired sneakers since the early 2000s and special editions are now the norm. Unlike previous pairs that have required fans to pledge allegiance to the country paraded on their feet, these AMPs fly a neutral flag and celebrate ‘the beautiful game’ via soccer ball graphics on the tongue and insoles.
The uppers take on a grey marle-like effect rather than the gradient found on OG pairs, and this is contrasted with tough black ribbing that runs into a tonal mudguard. Completing the colour trio is crisp blue splashed onto the lace loops, lining, Swoosh outline, and outsole tread. The yellow accent in the medial heel Air unit is also a nice tonal touch to match up with the branding.
Expect to see this Nike Air Max Plus and other commemorative models later this year as the World Cup draws closer.
