'Honeydew' Hits the Nike Air Trainer 1 SP

Update January 18, 2022: Official images of the Nike Air Trainer 1 SP in 'Honeydew' have arrived! This is likely the clearest view yet at the revisited 35-year-old sneaker. The new imagery also shows off its intricate reflective detailing and buckle strap. It also hints that a release date isn't too far away. Stay locked to SF for updates!
2022 is a year of many anniversaries for , and one of the Swoosh's biggest sneaker celebrations is the 35th anniversary of the . An all-sport sneaker designed by the legendary , the Air Trainer 1 has cultivated a loyal niche following in the years since its debut but it's set to surge to the front of Nike Sportswear's offerings again with models like this new 'Honeydew' colourway.
A SP (special project) release, the 'Honeydew' features the same overall last and wide, flat midsole as the original Air Trainer 1, but its embellishment is far different from previous models. The heavily panelled and patterned upper is dressed in a futuristic blend of grey and greyish blue shades, all of which are accented by 'Honeydew' collar detailing, Swooshes and midsoles. It kinda looks like a concept design from the early aughts!
Robotic colour scheme and new embellishments aside, the shoe's most notable detail is by far its buckle-secured forefoot strap. This is purely for aesthetic purposes and is a vast departure from the original Air Trainer 1's Velcro strap, which was designed to provide adjustable lockdown to suit a variety of athletic activities.
Release information for the Nike Air Trainer 1 SP 'Honeydew' has yet to be announced, but it's likely to arrive alongside the brightly-coloured 'Corriander' pair later this year.
