Resist the Urge to Stick Pins in the Nike Blazer Mid ‘Voodoo’
Official images have surfaced of a masochistic Mid that’s centred around a ‘Voodoo’ inspiration. The ancient practice of using a small effigy to usually inflict pain by a magical means has become a fantastical catalyst for creative mediums, of which sneakers are definitely a part of. While this sort of fun release tends to sit within the wheelhouse, this is an inline colourway through and through.
Playing off the patchwork stylings of how Voodoo dolls are depicted, these Blazers follow a similar convention of using different materials across the upper, haphazardly connected by some large whip stitching. Don’t worry, there’s regular machine stitching holding together the canvas, nylon, pinstripe, and houndstooth panels together.
Some neutral suede shows up on the toe cap and lateral Swoosh, and the complementary gum rubber sole also adds a sense of durability. To tie back to the theme, some button ‘eyes’ are sewn to the lateral ankle, and the included Nike doll makes the inso pretty clear too. Interestingly, the heels are embroidered with ‘Love’, so perhaps this sneaker isn’t as sinister as it appears to be.
Keep an eye out for the Nike Blazer Mid ‘Voodoo’ to be summoned at Swoosh stockists in coming months.
