The Nike Cortez Runs It Back to the 1970s
Dating all the way back to the 1970s, the is still one of the most popular shoes on the fast-paced sneaker circuit. Recently tapped by Edison Chen’s label for a truly unique 3-in-1 collaboration, the Cortez continues to arrive in fresh GR colourways, with the latest design celebrating all of the model’s vintage running DNA (the track shoe was originally released during the Summer Olympics in 1972).
The latest colourway is constructed in a streamlined colour palette of ‘Black’, ‘Sail’, and ‘Alabaster’ and has alternating panels of tumbled leather, smooth leather, and mesh. Down below, the model’s archival characteristics are celebrated with faux-aged midsoles (loaded with foam Phylon running tech) and classic herringbone pattern doing much of the colourway’s heavy lifting.
Of course replete with all the other design hallmarks of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, the Cortez features contrasting Swooshes along the medial and lateral sides, tonal stitching, and Nike branding across the heels, insoles and tongues.
With official images now surfacing online, we can expect this vintage-esque colourway to arrive at Nike retailers and select stockists over the coming weeks.
In the meantime, make sure to check out of the most legendary sneaker moments in cinematic history – including the classic Forrest Gump x Nike Cortez scene.
