This Nike Dunk High Gives Off ‘Deadpool’ Vibes
Sometimes sneaker colourways inadvertently have passing resemblances to recognisable pop culture palettes, therefore creating new and often unofficial nicknames. This is rife in the comic book world, whereby classic character endorsements often come with a lucrative licensing deal for official linkups. However, it’s unlikely this upcoming red and black has any recognised crossover with Deadpool, the dastardly eponymous character of the franchise.
These Grade School Dunks adopt a pretty straightforward colour scheme of red overlays on the toe bumper, eye stays and heel flaps atop black leather inserts on the toe box, mid panel and ankle collar. It’s a pretty classic ‘Bred’ combo, but this colourway adds an additional accent in the white Swoosh with red stitch trim. Furthermore, the soles are blacked out, which creates a pretty stark contrast against the bright upper.
For those of pop culture inclinations, it’s pretty easy to see the similarities to the Deadpool character, whose fitted costume and distinct mask design uses the same colour scheme as these Dunks. It’s certainly a slightly different take on the brightly coloured sneakers of late.
Expect to see these Dunks in Nike retailers later this year. It’s unlikely these will come in adult sizing, but it’s still a possibility.
