Nike’s Dunk Low Is a Tribute to Native American Heritage Month
November is the official Heritage Month, and it is a time to celebrate the culture, history and continuous contribution of Native American people. This year, ’s tribute to the special month comes in the form of an exclusive ‘Native’ collection that includes the Nike Disrupt 2 ‘Native’.
The Dunk Low has a white leather upper on the base, and the overlays are adorned with Native American patchwork and patterns. The heel has a tassel decoration in a scooped shape, which nods to the long history of tassel use in Native American tribes. The Nike branding is finished in a smooth silver on the tongue and dubrae, and the Swoosh appears on both sides in a white embroidered outline, but on the outer side, there is another small Swoosh in navy thread.
The colourway reflects prevalent colours in Native American culture, including red for strength, orange for regeneration, blue for wisdom, and white for peace. Turquoise blue is also a very significant colour to many Native American tribes, often being associated with protection, spirit communication and good fortune. This colour has been used as accents throughout and on the insole.
There’s no release date for the Nike Dunk Low Disrupt 2 ‘Native’ yet, but Native American Heritage Month celebrations kick off on November 1, so the release is imminent. Stay locked to Sneaker Freaker for updates on an official date.
