Don’t Let the Nike Dunk Scrap Go To Waste
The Scrap has been something of a surprise hit in the sneaker community. Shoes made to look like they’ve been thrown together from a combination of surplus materials generally has mixed results, but this model has figured out how to do it well. Up next is this dark navy colourway that turns sustainability stealthy.
This shoe roughly maintains the original Dunk silhouette, but it introduces additional patchwork-style panels and reinforced overlays, which adds plenty of jagged edges and overlapping layers. They’re certainly not as straight-cut as the OG. The Dunk Scrap also inserts some practical mesh on the mid panels, forefoot and ankle collar, upping the breathability on the otherwise all-leather uppers. There is also extra reinforcement on the eye stays and thick embroidery joining the front to back. In fact, while this falls under Nike’s lifestyle category, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to suggest these could work pretty well as a skate shoe.
Previous colourways of the Dunk Scrap have been much brighter, if not somewhat random, so this tonal mix of navy, black and blue is a much more understated combo. Keep an eye out for them at Nike retailers in coming months.
