Andrew Burgess x PUMA: A Match Made in Sustainable Heaven
have partnered up with and his fashion brand on an experimental capsule collection that uses PUMA’s revolutionary technology. This partnership is a match made in sustainable heaven, as PUMA’s technology is the perfect vehicle for Burgess’s passion for upcycling and design flair.
The RE:FIBRE recycling program involves taking old garments and factory waste and turning it into fresh materials by shredding, depolymerising, repolymerising and reimaging the textiles. Burgess has not only created the collection entirely from RE:FIBRE materials, but he has also designed the five pieces to reflect the beauty of the process.
‘My brand VIVID VISIONS is all about blending the past with the future, so working with PUMA to create a one-off collection made from a ‘new’ recycled fabric was pretty cool. The fabric strips on the sleeves represent the RE:FIBRE yarn that’s been spun from the melted polymers, and the cut off trousers and jacket reflect the transformative process that is RE:FIBRE.’
Each piece is designed in Burgess’s signature patchwork style, with an inky black anchoring the designs. Cobalt blue and rusty orange feature heavily throughout the pieces, with splashes of red and green adding depth and dimension. The function of the pieces is also sustainable, as the jacket and trousers can both be unzipped to make a vest and shorts, respectively, driving home Burgess’s mission to create pieces that can be worn time and time again.
