Exclusive First Look: PUMA Mostro at New York Fashion Week
Retro sneakers are constantly being re-introduced to new generations, and have been patiently waiting for the right time to bring back the . The sneaker is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the Big Cat have leapt on the opportunity to revive the silhouette, showing off what’s to come for the Mostro during their New York Fashion Week show – and Sneaker Freaker were there to get the exclusive scoop.
As the bass from the subwoofers boomed through the Park Avenue Armoury, the PUMA show was themed around a carnival gone wrong. An empty ferris wheel slowly rotated, whereas the chair swing ride hit the spin cycle with mannequins strapped into the seats wearing a rainbow of Mostros. The top billers of the show were the models strutting the runway wearing monstrous iterations of the sneaker.
The Mostro is taking many forms in 2024, coming in the traditional OG low cut, the knee-high Mostro Alto, and a laceless iteration. Originally released in 1999 as a hybrid between two archival PUMA silhouettes, the Mostro still looks ahead of its time 25 years later. Retro yet progressive, the Mostro is unapologetically PUMA thanks to its unique asymmetrical lacing setup and futuristic aesthetic.
PUMA are going all-in on the Mostro in 2024, and it looks like their bet is already paying off. Don’t be surprised if the Mostro starts hitting your IG feed soon and sneaking into your sneaker rotation this year.
