PUMA’s Paris Fashion Week Pop-Up Was Mostro Madness
Another Paris Fashion Week is in the books, and s presence could be felt all over the city’s streets. Alongside plenty of Big Cat products on the runways and on the ground, the brand took over Rue Froissart with an epic installation dedicated to its mighty sneaker. Here’s what went down.
The Mostro has never been a subtle sneaker, and so in stark contrast to the old town-style streets of Le Marais, PUMA announced the Monster’s arrival with an abrasive spiky archway, making the themed pop-up impossible to miss. On the first day of the event, PUMA welcomed a mix of creatives and media into the space, as they put on workshops with – the Amsterdam-based design studio responsible for some tumultuous Mostro customisations, including the hairy ‘Mostro Softcore’ and the insanely exaggerated, sharpened-spiked ‘Monstrous Mostro’. Creatives were invited to put their spin on the Mostro leather silhouettes, exploring their own interpretations of a sneaker that was designed to be different.
Elsewhere in the space, the Big Cat took the opportunity to educate visitors on their vast archive and ambitious design history, and an exhibit by and showcased some of the unique silhouettes from the brand’s back catalogue. But while it’s essential to remember our roots, sneaker brands must continue to step forward. PUMA’s Mostro pop-up proved there’s still a ton to come from the model, as they showcase both in-line versions and colabs to come. Included in the mix was a Mostro, dubbed the Mostro Fey, in both an in-line take and a colab, as well as the reclamation of the Mostro UR, a version of the shoe that was closer to what designer Peter Schmid had intended. Also on display were upcoming colabs from and , and even minimalist mood board have readied their own Mostro moment!
As the time came to unleash these new Mostros and open the pop-up to the public, an epic PUMA opening party in the Mostro Haus even saw a surprise appearance from .
With so much buzz around the silhouette, stay tuned for plenty more from PUMA's Monster era.
