Rick Owens Has Put His Own Spin on the Converse Chuck 70
Fabled avant-garde fashion designer is known for putting his unique spin on otherwise simple garments and footwear, bringing them into his obscure universe for many to follow like a cult. Within the sneaker world, he’s probably best known for his lengthy collaboration with adidas, appropriating the Nike Dunk High, and Ramones sneakers that have garnered a following of their own.
Speaking of Rick’s Ramones sneakers, there have been memes circulating over the past year of people not in the know looking to fashion-heads wearing the sneakers and saying ‘nice ’. Of course, this would have angered many of the IYKYK high-fashion crowd, because although they do look like a pair of Converse Chuck 70s, they cost a whole lot more! Now, it seems like the meme has come full circle, because Owens has linked with Converse to put his own spin on the .
Debuted during his Fall 2021 Menswear show, the Chuck 70 will be in collaboration with his diffusion line DRKSHDW. As expected, Owens has gone for a seriously wayward aesthetic. From what we can tell, he’s used the Chuck 70’s usual mould as the base, before adding thick canvas uppers. Down below, Owens has added a large square-toed chunk to the toe box, and extended the tongue – very reminiscent of his Ramones. Dubbed the ’TURBODRK’, the name can be seen scripted on the co-branded tongue label, completing the look.
