and are pushin' some serious P(enny) in 2022, thanks to their collaborative efforts on the . The partners have produced two takes on famed first signature shoe with removable Swooshes plus special details, and, as is par for the course with any Social Status colab, there's a deeper meaning at play than just making dope product.
Under the watchful eye of founder James Whitner, Social Status colabs are very intentional in their storytelling. 2021 saw a duo of inspired by the drink options that are part of free lunch programs for underserved children and finding 'beauty in the struggle.' These Air Max Penny 1s seem to follow a similar scholastic theme, though it must be mentioned that there's currently no official word on their inspiration.
Included in the collection is a black and white pair with an icy blue outsole that's a bit more traditional Penny plus a white, tan and black pair that appears more sartorially inclined. Both styles' signature details are provided by five interchangeable midfoot Swooshes: one with baseball stitching, one with basketball-style pebbled brown leather and three solid-coloured iterations in red, yellow and volt. Co-branded hits grace the heel and Penny's 1 Cent logo appears on the tongue.
Though some of the Swooshes are sport geared, the remainder of the shoe's signature details are decidedly scholarly. 'The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog' is printed on each insole and box, nodding to a handwriting exercise that contains all 26 letters of the alphabet and is accompanied by 'Nike Social Status Nike' script as well. More handwriting-inspired details can be found on the tissue paper thanks to a print that replicates the lined paper in a schoolchild's notebook.
At the time of writing, an official release date or pricing information for the Social Status x Nike Air Max Penny 1 has yet to be revealed. Keep it locked right here for more info as it's made available!
