By compiling athlete input, Nike’s design team used AI to generate visuals of potential designs. From there, they put pen to paper, sketching ideas before 3D printing the final renderings. The result was Air as it has never been seen before. These eye-popping futuristic designs, while perhaps not applicable in the real world for performance, do serve to inspire what the next generation of footwear can look like. Now, a year later, Nike are providing a way to reimagine what Air can look like for yourself.
Nike have unveiled an . It allows fans to put on their design cap and experiment with what shapes sneaker design might take. It is, in essence, ChatGPT for sneakers. The system has been trained and prepped with Air Max DNA and uses a text-to-image model to allow users to cook up their own sneaker. By adjusting the prompts inputted, this new platform can remix old models and create new futuristic ideas built on Nike’s history and inspired by your unique ideas. The system even lets you play with materials and colourways. This is Nike ID on steroids.
You won’t have the option to 3D print and purchase your design through the system, it will remain in the digital world. However, it represents a tangible step in Nike’s continued commitment to interacting with the online space. Happy imagining!
